Shelley Levy, IHC Program Coordinator for Kaplen JCC on the Palisades
Individual accommodations open a door once; systems change keeps it open, even after the funding ends. This session, offered as part of the Rutgers Disability Awareness Month programming, makes the case for centering systems change in disability-inclusion work, showing how policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) strategies move communities beyond one-off fixes toward accessibility that lasts. Using real examples from Inclusive Healthy Communities (IHC) grantees and featuring Shelley Levy from the Kaplan JCC on the Palisades and Jenna Sistad from Neighborhood Connections to Health, we’ll look at the policy and systems changes they achieved, what made those changes stick, and how macro-level work strengthens direct-service and advocacy efforts. You’ll leave with practical ideas for building systems change that outlives its funding into your own disability-rights portfolio.
