When we examine the word “disability,” it is striking that it contains the word “ability.” It reminds us that individuals with disabilities possess unique talents and capabilities. However, not everything within our communities is accessible to individuals with disabilities. As a 35-year-old woman with a physical disability, I yearn for increased accessibility within our municipalities, enabling me to lead a more independent life. Whether the absence of hearing loops for the hearing impaired or the lack of ramps to access places of worship, numerous barriers prevent me and others from fully participating and engaging independently in community life …
